We set off for some more dressage last Sunday, and I’m still weighing up the pros and cons of pushing on through despite the awful weather!… We had just the one prelim to do and despite my best efforts Soap really wasn’t ‘feeling it’ in the warm up. The freezing rain was pelting us, and every time we ventured past the hedge that sheltered us in half the arena he adopted the opposite bend in order to hide from the rain. The test was indoors but he was unsettled and noisy, and he broke his left lead canter because a deadly marker attempted to attack him so all in all it wasn’t our finest hour. Despite the frost bite we managed to scrape 9th place, but I’m not altogether sure it wouldn’t have been more beneficial to stay at home instead and school in between rain storms. Maybe these fair weather riders have a point?…
